In 1941, the theatre was leased to Odeon Theatres of Canada. After Odeon's lease ran out, the cinema was operated as a part of Inner City Cinemas along with the Avenue Theatre and Varscona Theatre. Inner City Cinemas ran a calendar program that ran movies for three days. Famous Players leased all 3 theatres from Inner City, which ended their unique venture. When Famous gave up the lease, the Roxy became The $2 Roxy, operating as a discount theatre with all shows $2, operated by Magic Lantern Theatres, which also had their offices in the retail space in the front of the building. In 1989, the building was then taken over by the Theatre Network and converted to a live-theatre venue. To find out more about Theatre Network's The Roxy project check out Chandos Construction's feature here

Preserving the look.

The MacLaren development at the corner of 124 Street and 102 Avenue in Edmonton is an example on how to incorporate new design while maintaining the charm of old historic buildings. Residents raised alarm when the 103-year-old Buena Vista building was said to be torn down in favor of a high rise. Questions arose about why another piece of Edmonton's history was being lost.

The Edgar Development plan for a 25-storey apartment earned praise for preserving the look of the iconic street corner. “This is the best way to preserve this building,” mayor Don Iveson told the Edmonton Journal in 2015 after councillors approved rezoning. “I think people recognize we’re going to get a pretty exceptional building.” Indeed we did! Edgar Development tore down the south wall of the old Buena Vista building brick-by-brick and then put it back together in the same spot. The painted advertising on the wall that dates back decades is still there. The north and west facades returned to their glory, with the tower being built up from behind and set back from the block to maintain the same curb appeal.Clark Builders completed both the preconstruction and the construction services for EDGAR Development. To find out more about Clark Builders and their involvement you can visit their feature by clicking on this link. There is no doubt The MacLaren has become a staple of Edmonton's Landmarks.
